4 Soul-Centered Secrets for Launching ANYTHING (I mean ANYTHING!)

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Ahh, the feelings that come with starting something new. Whether it’s a relationship or a job, there is an excitement and a mystery that comes with new beginnings. It can be intoxicating or it can be terrifying. It can get you up in the morning, or it can make you feel like hiding under the covers.

However you respond to new beginnings in your life and career, there are some foundational skills you want to have in order to launch this new entity with success and joy. If you don’t have these tools in place, it will be very difficult to get your new project off the ground.

But before tell you some of my favorite tools for starting something new (I’ve got so many; it was hard to choose just 4!), first let me give you some examples of what launching something new can encompass:

•    Program that you’re teaching
•    Business
•    Career
•    Job
•    Team Members
•    Relationship or Friendship
•    Exercise Routine
•    Marketing Plan
•    Work of Art
•    Community Organization
•    Etc.

And without further ado, here are 4 of my favorite Soul-Centered Secrets for Launching ANYTHING:

1) Get Excited about Your New Project: I know this might seem obvious, but think about how many times you set off to do something new, and it felt heavy, or stressful, or you just felt so-so about it. Not too much positive energy there, right?

If you aren’t excited about your new business or relationship or team member, then it will be very challenging to feel energized and spring into intentional action to move it forward. So here’s what I recommend: see if you can get excited about this new thing you’re embarking on. Make a list of all of the things about it that make your heart sing. If you come up with enough to help you shift your attitude around it, great! If not, then it’s time to reconsider if this new venture is aligned for you.

2) Institute a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Policy Until You Feel Confident: Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE telling family and friends and colleagues and clients about all of the new juicy things I’m up to. I love getting support and bringing folks into the picture with me. However, here’s what I’ve found to be true, both for myself and for many women I’ve worked with: if you let others in on your new program or budding relationship or book idea too soon, you leave yourself vulnerable to unintentional criticism or fear or doubt before you yourself are feeling fully confident in your new thing.

Instead, what I recommend is keeping your news to yourself until you feel strong enough and excited enough about it that Aunt Sally telling you you’re crazy from moving from corporate to not-for-profit won’t feel like an earthquake hit.

3) Be Honest with Yourself about your Fears: Starting something new is scary. Plain and simple. As my clients often hear me say – Fear is PART of the process of up-leveling and moving forward. That’s just how it is. What’s important is how you handle your fear: do you ignore it? Run away from it? Let it sabotage you? Or, are you willing to acknowledge and face your fears so that you can move past them?

Being able to do this is key to soul-centered success in anything you do.

4) Skip Towards Something New Instead of Running Away from Something Old: Whether it’s a new relationship or a new job or teaching new subject matter or a new diet, you want to make sure that you’re starting it for the right reasons. The right reasons can be: because you are excited, because you feel passionate about it, because it makes your heart sing, because your intuition is telling you it’s right.

The #1 wrong reason for launching something new: because it allows you to leave or run away from your current situation.

In other words, you want to move to a new city because you LOVE this new city, not simply because you hate where you are right now. Or, you want to launch a new group program in your business because you are so psyched to do it; not because your current group program simply isn’t working.

Of course: get out of the relationship or job or situation that isn’t working for you. But don’t run onto the next thing simply because the current one is mis-aligned. If you do this, you might find yourself running away again pretty soon thereafter.

So you say you want a Re-vo-lu-tion…

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Whoever you are, if you have an idea, business, message, work of art, conference, workshop, new algorhythm – basically anything that you’re passionate about – you want it out in the world in BIG ways. You want your idea to be visible, seen, understood, talked about, purchased. You want it to serve many and help shape and heal the world.

You know in your heart you’ve got something really special and the world needs to know about it. You feel the energy and excitement rising within you when you vision your idea out in the world in big ways.

And, when your passionate project or idea DOESN’T get seen or paid attention to, it can feel incredibly frustrating, as if you threw a big party and nobody came.

Visibility, unfortunately, doesn’t happen automatically just because you have a great idea. Visibility requires Revolutionary Energy.

What is Revolutionary Energy?

Revolutionary Energy is radically new or innovative; it’s outside or beyond the established procedures; it’s bold, and it’s what allows you to think for yourself and to think in ways you haven’t yet been taught to think.

We all need it at one point or another in our lives and work. You need Revolutionary energy in order to get out of a stuck pattern, make a splash and get your supervisor’s attention, get your business seen and desired, attract visibility to your book.

Yet so many folks find Revolutionary Energy so difficult to access. Why?Because we get stuck in the “norm”, and in our “shoulds” and “have to”s.

I want to teach you how you can do it ease-fully. Here are my 3 top tools for activating Revolutionary energy in your life:

1. Create Authentic and Out-of-the-box “Marketing” Ideas

When I say “marketing” ideas, I mean anything from actually marketing your business or book, to marketing yourself to get a job in a new organization or a promotion in your current office, to drawing attention to yourself in the realm of relationships and dating. If you’ve got a great idea, it’s important that you let others know about it in fun, new, unusual or authentic ways so that you capture their focus and draw them in.

Examples of authentic or out-of-the-box marketing ideas include:

• Hand-written, heart-centered thank you notes after job interviews or follow-up notes after meeting a prospect at a networking meeting
• Giving away gift certificates every 30 minutes of a Teleclass
• Completely breaking form in a promotional email to your community and including a collage of pictures, words, and sound

2. Be Bold & Persistent When it Comes to Spreading the Word

Have you ever heard of an apologetic revolutionary? Not a chance! When you begin to really put yourself or your message out there, it is pretty likely that fear is going to come up. But fear is always part of the process of growing, stretching, and becoming more visible. Being bold involves following up or asking why you didn’t get something you wanted – like following up with a prospective client, or someone you are interested in partnering with. Being bold means asking again or attempting to understand why you didn’t get the result you wanted.

In order to activate your revolutionary boldness, it’s important that you get really clear for yourself on your fears around putting yourself “out there” and standing up strong for yourself and whatever you want to be seen. Once you identify those fears, you can begin to build confidence around them so that it becomes easy-breezy to make the requests that you want and the follow-ups that are necessary.

3. Walk Your Talk: Whatever it is that you want to bring visibility to – yourself, your business, your artwork, your conference - you need to believe in it passionately, and live the principles behind it in your own life. If you aren’t confident in your idea, and put it to use in your own life, then others won’t be confident in it either. The more walk your talk, the more your revolutionary energy will come through, and the more visibility you’ll create.

Brain Science You Can’t Afford to Ignore

brain-lg

Have you ever sat down to write an article or to do something really important – only to get up two minutes later to do something like get a glass of water? You might then go back to the important thing you were supposed to be doing but another minute later you drift off to make a shopping list for later in the day. Eventually you remember to get back to the task at hand, only to forget and make a doctor’s appointment instead. You try and try to get back to the task you’re supposed to be doing but then you decide that updating your Facebook status is a much better idea. Eventually you probably give up – throw in the towel for the day and you probably feel awful … like you just wasted your entire day.

Sounds familiar, right? We all do it.

We’re prone to distractions and all those little things that we distracted ourselves with is actually a form of self-sabotage! No one wins when you are sabotaging yourself and you have only yourself to thank!

Self-sabotaging makes everything feel longer, harder, and it becomes exhausting! Most people even berate themselves into oblivion – which just makes the whole situation worse. Fear not, I have some interesting scientific information for you about distractions and self-sabotage.

Neuroscientists recently discovered just how deeply the brain holds the patterns that eventually lead us to distraction and sabotage! There’s good news, though! Apparently, the brain can also re-wire those patterns so that we can take consistent positive action in our lives.

I often write about re-patterning and breaking away from self-sabotage – I even teach a free teleclass on it! If you identified with the person I described above, don’t worry – there’s hope!

It’s time to stop feeling stuck, exhausted, frustrated, and angry at yourself AND others – it’s time to set yourself free to accomplish YOUR goals! Take a moment to visualize your current project and really take notice to what your brain is telling you isn’t working. Your brain can help you unlock the major steps that you’re missing or overlooking but you need to sit down first and take a moment. That moment helps.

Aside from taking moments to breathe – so you don’t become overwhelmed, you may want to consider your self-sabotage. If you want to learn step-by-step how to re-wire those negative patterns, stop thinking those thoughts like “I’m not good enough” and “I don’t deserve this” – and learn how to start believing that you ARE worth it because you ARE good enough! Negative thoughts will keep you from getting what you want.

I teach a lot of great tips like this in my Re-Patterning Your Negative Thoughts and Habits teleclass. My next class is coming up soon! If you want to learn how to eliminate those distractions that stand in your way of success, join me and register for this complimentary class on July 13th! Move Beyond Feeling Stuck - 3 Proven Principles for Creating Abundance in Your Life

Monday, June 13th, 2011

businesswomanDoes this scenario sounds familiar? You know deep inside of you that there are things you want, fulfillment you were MEANT to have, riches – material and not – that seem they should be yours. Yet, you walk through your days feeling like some things are missing, feeling lack, feeling like you don’t have enough, feeling resentment about what others have.

The experience of “not having enough” is  common for way too many people. And I want you to know it doesn’t need to be this way. I know you can live an abundant life because I was able to transform my own. Here are my powerful top 3 principles on creating abundance in your life:

Principle 1: Re-Write Your Money Story and Live By It

We each have a very unique and important relationship to money and beliefs around it. Everyone has a money story and it’s your money story that either allows you to attract in prosperity or completely blocks you from having what you want in your life. Your “money story” is a series of beliefs that we have developed about money and our personal relationship to money. If you are in a place in your life where your bank account doesn’t reflect what you want then you can be 100%, absolutely sure that you are operating out of a personal money story that is sabotaging you!

Getting clear on your internal messaging about money is a deep process, and requires you to look closely and courageously at your beliefs around what you deserve, what you really think about wealth, and much more. We learn all seven parts of the process in detail the Women’s Intuitive Leadership Program, but here’s a few pointers: Identify Your Voice of Scarcity – that voice that says “you aren’t enough”. Listen to that voice and the message, then take a moment and ask yourself – what is the thing you are scared of most around money? Whatever it is, work with it, or else it will begin or continue to sabotage your life and your bank account.

Principle 2: Learn the Female Art of Reception

There is an abundance of everything in the world - money, love, opportunities.

Yet, often times, you live and take action and set your mood according to your fears, instead of acknowledging and choosing to live by the incredible abundance that is available to you. Abundance is  your birthright. The Female Art of Reception is vital here. If you don’t know how to receive, then all of the abundance in the world won’t matter because you aren’t prepared and able to allow it in. Learning how to receive starts with acknowledgement and being able to open your eyes to what you have and what is available to you. Make a list of everything you have, all the abundance in your life. No matter what the size of your bank account, this list will help you to step on the path of the female art of reception by attuning you to what you already have.

Principle 3: Create Your Sacred Blueprint & Include Your Bottom Line Numbers

If you don’t have a well thought out action plan or a blueprint for creating abundance, then you are left to navigate your journey without a road map or recognizable landmarks. This can be a frustrating challenge. So, how do you create your Sacred Blueprint? Clearly define the scope of your what you’re creating or what your project is, the time frame you’d like to do it in, and this is so important – the amount of money you’d like to make. Next, you would get very clear on all of the larger action steps that need to happen to accomplish your goal. From there, you want to break each of your action steps into what I call mini-action steps! The smaller you can break the mini-action step into, the more effective your action plan will be because you will be able to get clearer and clearer on exactly what you have to do and how long it will take. Creating a Sacred Blueprint that includes your bottom line numbers, and then fitting your blueprint into your schedule in do-able and manageable chunks is one of the absolute essentials that set successful leaders apart from everyone else.

If you are interested in creating more abundance for yourself and so much more, then I highly recommend the Women’s Intuitive Leadership Program (WILP) that begins on June 15th – so here’s the nitty-gritty:

It is a transformative 12-week program that includes weekly – 60-minute Intuitive Leadership Training calls that take you step by step through the Woman Wisdom Principles for achieving what you want in a feminine, nurturing, connected and soul-centered way. What Do In-Authenticity, Resentment and Wishy-Washyness Have in Common? Unhealthy Boundary Setting!

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Do any of these situations sound familiar?:

Your client pays you a month late…for the third time.
You swallow your roommate’s jab at your choice of outfit, again.

Your child wakes you up for the fifth time at night.
You say “yes” with a grimace to Aunt Jane when you are asked to cook for the family get-together even though you are swamped with work.

These situations are all results of unclear, abused boundaries. Unhealthy boundaries can leave you feeling exhausted, resentful, and inauthentic in your relationships. When you allow your boundaries to be violated, you also often end up lacking in time, money and self-care.

Examples of good boundaries:

  • Having a schedule and sticking to it
  • Being clear about your rate, services, and availability
  • Agreeing on timelines
  • Knowing your “No’s” – what is it that is a deal breaker for you, is not okay – and following through on it
  • Taking care of yourself before you take care of others

What happens when you have good boundaries:

  • You feel energized
  • You feel clear
  • You find you are taking better care of yourself
  • Your relationships feel authentic
  • You have time for things
  • You feel abundant
  • You are able to serve in more ways
  • You enjoy life more

So, what do you do if you sense that you are allowing your boundaries to be crossed and violated? Here is my proven 4-part process for creating healthy and happy boundaries in your life: ...keep reading

Who’s your Mama? How to get nurtured, loved, and supported

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

I appreciate Mother’s Day in a whole new way now that I’m a Mother myself.

I realize that it’s not just about honoring my mother, but it’s really about taking a day to get the importance of being mothered - of being nurtured, loved, seen, appreciated, taken care of.

For some of us, this is exactly how our mothers mothered us. For others, not so much.

Here’s what I’ve come to learn: no matter how loving  your mother has been, no matter how nurturing your mother has been, no matter how encouraging your mother has been, there is no mother on the face of this earth who is perfect. Period. Not even me (though sometimes I tell myself I am!).

In other words, none of us have found in our mothers the opportunity to ALWAYS be seen, always be heard, always have our opinion valued, always be given the benefit of the doubt, always be respected.

And because of it, as you grow up, you might feel a little unseen in the world, undervalued, unheard. Or perhaps somehow your relationship with your mother created for you the feeling that you were always responsible for her or your family, or that it was unacceptable to break the pattern of illness or addiction or lack in your family, or that you would be unloved if you became your own, separate person. Perhaps somehow you were told that you were “too much” or “not enough”. Or maybe the message was you’ll never REALLY be successful, or that you’re not attractive enough.

Whatever the story was for you, chances are there is a story, and that story has had a profound effect on your life and your image of yourself. ...keep reading

Do You Have a Vision for Your Life?

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Congratulations! So you have finally allowed yourself to recognize (even if just a little bit, like a tiny little whisper) the deep calling of your heart - that you would like to leave your job, write a novel, create a family, start painting portraits, really expand your business in order to reach more people, whatever it may be. But before you are even able to pick up a paintbrush, or make an hour of time in your busy schedule to write, you are bombarded by a slew of criticism whether internal or external.

Sometimes this criticism is enough to make you close the door and double bolt your soul-centered desire all together! What was I thinking?! You may ask yourself.

Well, I want to give you the opportunity today to move out of questioning yourself and being stuck, and onto a path of truly and deeply honoring that soul-calling.

I’m going to let you in on an amazing tool that will help you stay centered and strong no matter what rears its head on your path toward soul-centered living and success. This tool will give you ...keep reading

This is the most personal post I ever wrote…

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

I want to tell you about an incredibly powerful and transformative breakthrough I’ve recently had in my life.

This is probably the most personal I’ve ever gotten in an email to my community, and I feel a little vulnerable sharing it with you. However, my inner wisdom keeps telling me that it is really important that you hear it.

So, it’s a little longer than usual, but it’s INCREDIBLY important, so here it goes…

Many of you have noticed that I have new headshots. (Thank you for all of the loving compliments and well-wishes you’ve given me on them!!!!)

Here’s what you don’t know about my headshots: it took me TWO WHOLE YEARS of contemplating getting them before I was actually ready to do it.

I knew I needed headshots because I hated the photos I had up on my website and marketing materials. Every time I looked at them I cringed because they just didn’t feel right.

And yet, I still didn’t make time to call a photographer and schedule a photo shoot.

For a long time I thought I was just too busy to get them done. Or, I told myself, I needed to wait until my hair grew to a certain length. Or, I told myself that it was the wrong time of year. Or, I told myself that it wasn’t a worthy investment.

Well, this went on for a while until I started getting unsolicited feedback about my photos. I was told by quite a number of people - some that I had just met! - that those old photos looked nothing really like me, that they didn’t convey my soulful and transformative energy and abilities, and that it looked like I was hiding from the camera in them.

To be honest, at first I was kind of insulted by those comments. Then one day it hit me - I WAS hiding from the camera in those photos, and not just from the camera, but from my community, my current and future clients, my partners, my mentors, and anyone that would come across them.

I was scared of being visible. I was scared of being truly seen and noticed by others. I realized that by not featuring headshots that showed the “real” me, I was allowing myself to stay small and to stay safe and to stay comfortable by not really letting my photographs convey the power of my work and my incredible ability to help women heal their wounds and move forward radically with their businesses, careers, art, relationships and so much more.

Why? ...keep reading

An Introduction to Your Own Inner Wisdom

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Has something like this ever happened to you: a friend of yours gives you a call in the evening to invite you to lunch the next day. You are very busy and have been waiting to spend some quality time with yourself, your children, your husband, and just the prospect of going out to lunch with this particular friend makes you feel heavy and exhausted. Still, you say “yes” to her anyway because you feel you need to in order to maintain your friendship, or you fear that otherwise she will be upset with you since this is the third invitation you are turning down.

What you have just experienced is an encounter with your inner wisdom, and a subsequent denial of it.

We do this in so many areas in life from the seemingly small decisions like when we know intuitively that eating another pizza lunch on the go is going to leave us feeling upset and uncomfortable with ourselves but do it anyway because we think we don’t have enough time to do otherwise, to the big things like knowing deep inside that our long-term relationship is unhealthy in many ways but we fear the consequences of breaking it off so much that we just silently suffer through it day after day.

Inner wisdom is also known as ...keep reading
