Creating Your Personal Theme and Resolutions for the New Year – Part I

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Each December, many of us begin making our New Year’s resolutions – lists of juicy and not-so-juicy goals we’d like to achieve over the year. We promise ourselves things like “lose 10 pounds,” “create a loving relationship,” “take a trip to Costa Rica,” or “eat less sweets.” Often we accomplish these resolutions, yet many times they remain nice thoughts that were quickly forgotten by the end of the first week of the year.

Does this sound familiar?

How many New Year’s resolutions have you made and broken - or worse yet - made and forgotten?

For the last few years I’ve found a fun, intuitive way to help create meaningful resolutions and stick to them. I do this by first creating a personal theme for my year and then by allowing resolutions to naturally flow from that theme or way of living and experiencing the world. This article focuses on creating your personal theme for the new year.

By creating a theme for the year, you will be able to feel more fulfilled and stay aligned with your deepest desires. Once you uncover your theme, ...keep reading

How to Make the Winter Season Work for You

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

In my coaching practice, I hear it time and time again:

Ugh, it’s wintertime. It’s cold and dark…and I feel stuck!

Entering into the winter season can bring up a lot of fear, anxiety, and struggle for you if you “fight” against it. Most of us are naturally drawn to the energy and feel of spring or summer - these are times when the weather is nice, there is plenty of light out, people are feeling sociable and energetic, and they’re very excited about the renewal and growth happening in the natural world (and then mirrored in their own lives).

Winter, on the other hand, can be seen as a really tough time of year when projects are suspended, enthusiasm is low, and things move very slowly. However, if you can honor that winter is supposed to have a different energy, feel and look from the spring, summer or even autumn, then the dark season can become a beautiful time of rest, renewal and creativity.

The trick is to be able to understand and honor that the wintertime, and the lessons and experiences it brings, are just as important as the summertime lessons and experiences.

Here are a few ways to make your winter experience work for you: ...keep reading

Your Holiday Wellness Guide - The Top 7

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

It’s that time of the year again - holiday season! Next week, many of us will begin a dizzying six weeks of traveling, eating, partying, spending, and being with family. It can be a lot to handle, even for the most balanced and prepared individuals.

Often, by the time the New Year emerges, you can feel drained, exhausted, bloated, and ready to hide out from your friends and family for a while. That’s not the best way to start the new year!

I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to you this holiday season, and you start 2010 with clarity, vitality, and balance. Here are my top seven tips for thriving and enjoying yourself between now and the end of the year (and beyond!): ...keep reading

Energize Your Life by Understanding Drive vs. Passion

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I have been talking a lot lately with women who are telling me that they are working hard, quite often achieving their goals, and yet still not feeling successful, accomplished, or good about what they are doing. A typical story goes like this:

You decide that you want to accomplish a big project, for example, writing your book. You work on it for six months. You create your action plan, you meet all of your mini-goals or milestones, and you finally finish your book. You have a completed manuscript! And yet, you don’t feel all that accomplished for putting the final edits on it. Instead, you start brainstorming how you are going to get your book published. So, you work hard to find an agent, and then to get your manuscript published…and all that happens! And yet, you still don’t feel satisfied. You still feel like you’ve got more to do, and you start thinking about working on your next book.

Know what I’m talking about?

It’s as if no matter what you do, no matter how small or how big, no matter what you complete, you are constantly thinking and maybe even stressing over the next big accomplishment, the next milestone. You find it hard to simply take pleasure in your process and in your achievement. You feel hungry for the next success all the time.

When enough never feels like “enough” ...keep reading

5 Ways to Connect to Your Inner Wisdom

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

In our Modern World, life can get really busy and really fast. We spend a lot of time and energy running around, and also place a lot of importance on our left brains - our rational minds.

Despite all this, somewhere, deep in our souls, we know the importance of slowing down and connecting to our inner wisdom, connecting to our right brains - that place of deep intuition and creativity that holds so many answers and so much richness for us.

Here is a list of my absolute favorite top 5 ways to really settle in and listen to the treasury of wisdom that your heart and soul has for you. None of them need to take up a lot of time or effort! Connecting to your inner wisdom can be easy and flowing.

1) Journaling: To cut through the mind’s chitter chatter and get straight to your inner wisdom, journaling works best if you write fast, without stopping, without worrying about grammar or language, or even full sentences. The name of the game is here is to write quickly without judgement or even thought, and see what comes up for you. It helps to start with a provocative phrase like: “I am a woman who…..” or “I am here….” ...keep reading

An Autumn Ritual for Letting Go of Your Blocks

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Autumn is the perfect time to clean out and let go of what no longer serves you in your life.

Look around and notice that the days are getting shorter and the leaves are falling from the trees. Soon, there will be less bounty and abundance being offered from the flowers and plants. Nature is letting go of excess and stripping down to the essentials - to what is really necessary to get through the long, dark winter. These cues from nature are beautiful invitations to help you in identifying, releasing, and letting go of the excess, of the things that are perhaps weighing you down in your life.

It’s important to “clean house” on an inner level every now and again, and take stock of what you’re holding onto.

So often, you hold on to old fears, resentments, habits, patterns, limiting beliefs and ways of being because they FEEL comfortable since you’ve been clenching on to them for so long. However, when you take a closer look, you can begin to see that these things no longer serve you, and in fact are standing in your way of moving forward.

The tree metaphor applies here: imagine what might happen if trees never shed their leafs? Yes, they might not ever look bare, and there is comfort in always looking full and abundant. However, if the trees never shed their leafs, they would never have space or opportunity to grow new leafs - new ideas, new projects, new beliefs, new opportunities. See where I’m going with this?

I’ve created for a you a simple and special Autumn ritual to be able to identify and let go of the things in your life that are ready to be released:  ...keep reading

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Imagine this:

Do You Prevent Yourself from Thinking and Being BIG?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

I am a firm believer that each of us, no matter who we are, has a deep and sacred desire to be BIG and be seen for the positive impact we are making on our families, friends, communities and the world. Even if you know yourself to be the most modest person out there, you still have, somewhere inside, an authentic and beautiful desire to fully show up for your life, do amazing things, and be recognized for it.

This could take the form of having a super-successful business, becoming a performer, writing a bestselling book, receiving accolades at work, creating a website that provides resources and information on a topic you’re passionate about, becoming the President of your PTA or Co-op Board, or excelling as a leader in your volunteer organization or family. We each carry within us the desire to be big and seen because there is so much to be gained from it ...keep reading
