Getting to Your Joy Default
By Sigrid Kjeldsen
For many of us, struggle, strain and turmoil is how we learn. Coming out the other end of really awful situations is how we understand and SEE that life is indeed beautiful. Over at The Joyful Mother Facebook community, we have moms that have experienced the unthinkable – the loss of a child or of a spouse. Many of these moms have used and are learning to use, their experiences to cultivate a greater appreciation for life.

Then there is this huge group of us today that haven’t gone through such turmoil. But we seem to complain about life as if we had. Our children are irritating and wild, our jobs are stressful, all of the responsibilities we juggle are draining, we are out of shape and exhausted and we often feel we are living our lives unfulfilled and frustrated. The biggest challenge for this group is the tendency to seek fulfillment and meaning outside of ourselves. Doing this creates a sort of happiness instability. We are happy when things are going right, frustrated when things go wrong.

For the first group, the stressor is so extreme, so worst-case scenario, that after some time people realize “Hey! I just experienced my greatest fear”, and they often recognize that underneath fear, worry, stress, frustration is this naturally, pulsating joyful life experience. What I call The Joy Default.

You see the people living with, let’s say, less major stress have accepted this way of life as the NORM. We have completely normalized stress because we see no other way, we see no relief. The only thing that we think will give us relief is a change in our external circumstances. If you lack money, relief comes only with the addition of more money. If you hate your job, relief comes only in the form of a new, better job. If you find balancing work and home life a struggle, relief only comes in finding the perfect balancing act. This group is fundamentally unconscious of what the other group sees and has recognized– that there is life underneath the life experience as Ekhart Tolle says.

Does this explain your life? If so, you are one of millions that feel the same. But today could be the day life changes for you! I am going to tell you how to escape from a life of stress and frustration and it is the easiest, most lovely habit you could ever cultivate.

It is about getting grateful. Your life will literally change when you start focusing on all the blessings in your life. Really feel them, see them and cultivate a deep awareness of these things throughout your day. And do you know what will start happening? You will find the RELIEF you have been searching for. Relief from your daily struggles, from what isn’t working in your life, and discover your life underneath your life experience or your Joy Default.

So, ask yourself this…”If you woke up tomorrow with only the things you thanked God for yesterday, what would you have?”

Blog Summit - Day 2 - Gratitude and Appreciation – Inseparable Partners?

Friday, November 11th, 2011

It’s officially Day 2 of the Gratitude Project Blog Summit! Our first day went off without a hitch and we are one day closer to the main event for the Gratitude Project - find out all about it here!

simon_pic3To kick things off today, let me introduce you to Simon Duncan of the Inspired Life Portal. His site, http://theinspiredlifeportal.com/index.html acts as a way to help you to explore, discover and live your authentic self. Simon’s goal is to inspire you to live your truth, to listen to your heart and to act on it, and to do all of this himself. To this end, he wrote The Loving Life Program – a free 7 day course to help you to connect with the love that is ever present within, and to experience that in all areas of life. Find out more and sign up for The Loving Life Program here. You can also find Simon on Facebook and on Twitter.

Gratitude and Appreciation - Inseparable Partners?
By Simon Duncan
Is gratitude just about giving thanks and being grateful? Is an attitude of gratitude just that – an attitude? What else is there? I believe for gratitude to be truly sincere it must be heartfelt and combined with appreciation – whether or not it is expressed. Let me explain.

When you give thanks, the emphasis is on the giving. Giving out, giving from yourself to someone or something outside of you. And that giving is very important. It is an expression of feeling, an outpouring from your heart, an outward flow of one of the many forms of love. It is what your heart is designed to do. Express love.

Or at least half of what your heart does.

Your heart is your giver and your receiver of love. I’m not talking about romantic love here, though that is one aspect. I mean the love that connects us all and gives life to everything. Your and everyone’s heart has channels in and out through which love in all its forms flows. When your heart is fully open love flows in and out equally, smoothly, without barriers. But what happens if your outbound channels are open, but the inbound channels are restricted? Simple – the outbound channels restrict too, and the flow decreases.

So to give love out fully in the form of gratitude, you must be accepting the inflow of love too. Appreciation is that inbound flow of love. And so gratitude and appreciation go hand in hand.

Accepting the flow of love both in and out is crucial to your health and your well-being and is essential if you want to help others and to truly express your gratitude. When someone is kind or says something lovely to you, let it in. Don’t block it with a barrier of unworthiness. All that does is limit the depth of your gratitude when you try to reciprocate. When nature shines its beauty upon you (as it constantly does), drown yourself in it and allow that beauty to fill you with its love. When someone praises you, gives you a hug, or says ‘I love you’, open up and let it in.

The result of all that appreciation will be a natural opening of your gratitude channels and love will pour from you with a greater and deeper feeling than you have ever known. Nor does this need to be expressed in words (though don’t hold back). The flow of love as gratitude is the true sincerity. It’s less what you say, and more the love that you say it with.

So open your heart and allow gratitude and appreciation to light up your life and the lives of those around you.

How Are YOU Doing Gratitude?
By Jennifer Urezzio
You know gratitude is a funny thing. We hear a lot about it. We know we are “supposed” to do it and what I believe happens is this: life’s patterns get in the way.

Recently, it was my birthday! YAY, for me! I received over 300 Facebook well wishes. I was grateful for each one of those messages and yet…I noticed myself not fully pausing and letting those wishes and support truly be received.

Again, here was another example to really pause and practice what I preach. To PAUSE and connect with the Divine and with my Soul.

I believe gratitude is just another way of experiencing your connection with your Soul. It is an opportunity for you to PAUSE and explore that feeling of being one with Creation. So for me, it is important how I choose to conduct gratitude.

How are you choosing to conduct gratitude?

  1. Are you racing through it, so you can get to the “things” on your list that you haven’t received?
  2. Are you practicing gratitude because you “think” it will help you get what you want?
  3. Are you practicing gratitude because you were told it is the “right” action to take?
  4. Are you present in gratitude? Giving your heart over to gratitude and being one with the Divine?

That last one is how I intend to conduct Gratitude. Some days, I’m really spot-on with that intention and other days…Well, other days, I get to really connect to my Soul and the Divine to remember who I am and the truth of me!

See, it is all one – gratitude, abundance, love, joy…These are all aspects of the Divine and if you want to have a deeper relationship with the Divine than I suggest you meet the Divine on its playing field.

Start with just being present

If your answer was anything other than D, you can step up your gratitude practice. I suggest the first step is just being present. Be present with how you feel as you are expressing gratitude. Are you thinking about other things? Are you looking into someone’s eyes when you say thank you? Just for today when you offer gratitude to other just be in the moment. See how that changes your day and than your life.

Guest Post- Get Naked: How to Feel Comfortable In Your Own Skin

Get Naked: How to Feel Comfortable in Your Own Skin
By Jenny Fenig
When was the last time you felt totally comfortable in your own skin and liberated in your body? Yesterday? Last month? Last year? Last decade?

For some of you, it’s been way, way too long.

Do you ever dream of dancing on a table, going into a sauna with no clothes on, or expressing yourself creatively without inhibitions? Sensual self-expression is good for the soul. It’s healthy. It’s necessary. It’s how you share your voice with the world.

Sensuality is an inner glow. It’s your own personal fire that can be nurtured and stoked. It can grow when you bring your awareness to it.

And know this: when you ignore or suppress your sensual self-expression, a piece of you dies. Yes, your voice stays locked away nice and tight. Your truth is denied. It hurts. And do you know what’s worse? When you keep your sensual self-expression locked away, you also deny spreading your magic and your gift with the people you are meant to serve. These peeps need you.

Ready to make a change?

“Sensual self-expression is a woman’s birthright.” – Charlotte Rose

Starting now, you are going to reach down deep inside to bring out the essence of your sensual self. This is gonna be good …

So I’m a big fan of women calling upon Goddesses to teach them how to live powerful, kick-a** lives. You can learn a lot from these wise women. And you can realize you are a Goddess too … so start acting like one (for help with this, grab your free membership in the Gutsy Goddess Society, a sparkly online community for gutsy gals living life on purpose). Makes life a ton more fun and magical. You’ll see.

Let’s call on a super-cool, gorgeous Goddess named Oshun. She is all about bringing out your sensuality and appreciating yourself. She’s a major love goddess. Oshun is awesome.

You’re going to get naked with Oshun. Yup, it’s time to strip away the layers to truly get comfortable in your own skin. Then, and only then, will you get closer to living your truth, speaking your truth, and being the sensual woman you are meant to be.

As a coach and mentor to gutsy gals living life on purpose, my style of guidance and support is all about inspiration in action … so I’m giving you an assignment that will rock your world. Excited? Good! Me too.

Create a Private “Get Naked” Ritual with Oshun as Your Goddess Guide

  1. Dance! (And dance some more!). Pick a time when you know you will be undisturbed. Then, put on some amazing tunes and dance your booty off. It doesn’t matter if you think you can dance or not … just start moving your hips and your arms to the beat of the music. Release all inhibitions and dance just like you did when you were a little girl. Dance like no one is watching and have a ball. Seriously, tear it up like you are a dancing queen.
  2. Make your space sensual. After you’ve worked up a sweat dancing like a dancing goddess queen, turn down the upbeat tunes, pick more chilled out tunes, dim the lights and light a candle.
  3. Get naked. Yup, take it off. It’s time to strip away the layers and look at yourself – without judgment – in the mirror. Notice all of you features, including the areas you normally don’t look it. Admire how beautiful your body is. The more you can begin to focus on seeing your most beautiful self, the more beautiful you will become. Truly. If you have been critical of yourself in the past, it’s time to change that old habit. Now you’re going to recognize that criticism as a distorted image of yourself based on untrue beliefs about what is beautiful. You are beautiful. Believe this and your world will change.
  4. Hello, beautiful. Look into your eyes in the mirror and say these three words: You are beautiful. Then smile. Then wink at yourself. Then smile again.
  5. You’ve been promoted. Now it’s time to give yourself a new, fabulous nickname that captures your newfound sensual identity. Have fun with this. Get wild, gutsy and spunky. Maybe you are the Glowing Goddess or the Queen of Pleasure or the Hot Mama or the Goddess of Adventurous Passion.

Alrighty, it’s high time you love yourself all over! Be grateful for your gifts. Be grateful for your battle scars, your wounds, your past. EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) has led you to this point of you reading this at this very moment. We are supposed to be connected like this. Woo hoo!

My friend, you are supposed to be here. You are supposed to shimmer, shine, rock, roll.

Say yes to life. Say yes to you.

xoxo

Serenity Now! Moving Through Stressful Situations with Ease

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

stressFall seems to be an insane time of year for everyone. Kids are back in school – so the school year is in full swing; the holidays are coming and people are planning and saving; and work just doesn’t seem to let up. Have you ever felt like this?
Stress sometimes seems to come out nowhere sometimes! Have you ever been in a situation where everything is going well – you have time to finish that big project at work, play with your kids, and spend time with your loved ones! It seems almost impossible that you have this abundance of time and energy. Then, one day, something happens and everything is turned upside down. It doesn’t matter what triggered that moment – what matters is you’re a big ball of stress now and you’re plagued with worries, fears, and stress!
Stress happens to all of us but you have a choice to make: do you freak out, worry, and let the fear grip you? OR do you respond proactively?
The choice is yours and how you respond will have an impact on how the situation is handled. If you don’t know how to manage your stress, it will start to affect your body, mind, and soul.
Which choice would you rather make? If you stay calm and centered through a crisis, just imagine how different you’re going to feel. Sometimes all it takes to stay calm and serene is to listen to that little voice inside of you that tells you to “calm down”, “relax”, and take it “one step at a time”. Your intuition can help you go from stressed out to sane and centered! There are a few other tools to help you stay relatively serene when life gets crazy:

  • Take Care of Yourself – we usually forget that we are our #1 priority. When we’re stressed out, taking care of ourselves gets thrown out the window because we falsely believe that it’s a waste of time … and when the clock is ticking, who has that kind of time!?! YOU DO! Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, taking your vitamins, eating well and drinking water, finding time to exercise (both your mind and body), and occasionally taking some extra steps to make you feel good. When you’re stressed out, it’s imperative that you take care of yourself. If you don’t, no one else will and you’re going to need to be at the top of your game to deal with a stressful period.
  • Tell Stress to Take a Hike From Your Body! It’s human nature to internalize stress but when we internalize, all that stress gets stuck in our body and creates physical pain and discomfort! Think of the last time you were stressed out – was your back tense and did your shoulders ache? That’s stress! Tell stress to take a hike by being active! Work out the stress by kick boxing, running, dancing, or even screaming into a pillow! Do it regularly when you’re starting to feel stressed out and your body will thank you for it by turning stress into energy!
  • Take Time to Connect with Yourself – With so much emotion running through you during stressful times, it’s important to really understand what’s going on with your heart and soul, so take a moment to check-in with yourself and maybe ask yourself how you’re doing! There’s a danger in forgetting about yourself when you’re stressed – you may start lashing out at loved ones and go through periods of low self-esteem. Avoid this at all costs by reconnecting with yourself. You can do this through meditation or, my personal favorite, a writing exercise where you take around 10 minutes of quiet time and start off with “I feel like…” or “I find myself…” – then just write. Don’t stop writing. Don’t edit, don’t proofread. Just write. Getting your thoughts out will help put things into perspective on how you’re really feeling.
  • Listen to Your Intuition – we often forget about that little voice inside of us that helps guide us. You need your inner voice more than ever so take the time to listen when it’s trying to guide you. If you’re stuck at a cross-road and feel like something is pulling you in one direction, go with the flow, it’s likely your gut is trying to lead you in a good direction.

Remember: YOU have control. You have control over how you respond. You have control over how you move. You control how you deal with a stressful situation. The choice is yours. Will you allow yourself to become drained and tension filled or will you be leading yourself to a more centered and balanced experience? It’s your choice – choose wisely.

Guest Posting Today on Baby Blog Addict

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

baby_blog_addict_baby_smallI am SO excited to share some great news with you! I’m going to be featured on www.babyblogaddict.com today with a brand new post entitled Inner Wisdom – You’ve Got It but What Is It? It’s an information (and eye opening) post on something we discuss a lot here at Soulful Coaching - your intuition.

Here’s a brief idea: have you ever found yourself in a situation where you didn’t want to do something but you did it anyway because you were afraid of the consequences? Maybe that situation involves a last-minute lunch with a friend when you have a mound of paperwork to do. Perhaps it’s buying a big-ticket item even though you weren’t really ready for the big-ticket expense. It can even be going on a date with someone you weren’t that keen on going out with in the first place.

Any of those sound familiar? If you’ve been stuck in one of those situations, head over to my guest post on Baby Blog Addict. I can’t wait for you to read what I have to say about intuition! It’s My Birthday: Sacred Birthday Rituals and a Gift!

Sunday, August 28th, 2011
A gift from me to you for my birthday!

A gift from me to you!

My birthday falls on August 28th (that’s today!). My birthday is super-special to me, and I like to have big celebrations. At the same time, I also make sure that every year on my actual birthday I make some dedicated sacred space just for ME.

What do I do during this sacred time? I do a ritual that allows me to gracefully and joyfully let go of one year and powerfully move on to the next.

How do I do this?

  1. I create a ritual atmosphere that allows me to really connect deeply with myself. I light candles, burn incense, get comfortable, and breathe.
  2. From there, I review the year that has just past. I note all the things that I am grateful for, all the things I’m proud of, all the things I really want to celebrate. I really make the time to honor my accomplishments and blessings. This is so important in the process of moving forward.
  3. Next, I acknowledge all of the things that happened during the last year that aren’t serving me, and that I am ready to let go of. Things on this list might be disappointments about losses, ways that I am judging myself, relationships that are no longer working. I honestly and lovingly get very clear with myself on all the things that I don’t want to take with me into my new year. Then I breathe each of those things out of my system. Slowly, with focus. I let them go so that I can move forward without anything holding me back.
  4. Finally, I look forward! I sense into the coming year of my life and set goals and intentions for the year to come. I write them all down and then infuse those goals into an item that I keep with me for the entire year – a candle, a new scarf, a necklace, a new plant.

Going through this sacred birthday ritual each year has allowed me to move forward in my life and work in HUGE ways. Why? Because it has helped me assess emotionally what needs to happen next as well as get clear on what concretely needs to happen next.

Of course, there are quite a few more steps to be able to do this on a weekly and monthly basis so that you create success in your life and work. And that’s why I created the Women’s Intuitive Leadership Program! It is a 12-week tele-training for women who are really ready to experience big change in their lives.

And, in honor of my birthday, for the next 48 hours (until midnight on 8/30), I am gifting everyone with a whopping 35% off the program.

http://www.soulfulcoach.com/birthdayWILP.php

The gift of this discount and program are straight from my heart to yours! So, if you have been waiting from the right time to enroll in the Women’s Intuitive Leadership Program – NOW is the time.

4 Soul-Centered Secrets for Launching ANYTHING (I mean ANYTHING!)

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Ahh, the feelings that come with starting something new. Whether it’s a relationship or a job, there is an excitement and a mystery that comes with new beginnings. It can be intoxicating or it can be terrifying. It can get you up in the morning, or it can make you feel like hiding under the covers.

However you respond to new beginnings in your life and career, there are some foundational skills you want to have in order to launch this new entity with success and joy. If you don’t have these tools in place, it will be very difficult to get your new project off the ground.

But before tell you some of my favorite tools for starting something new (I’ve got so many; it was hard to choose just 4!), first let me give you some examples of what launching something new can encompass:

•    Program that you’re teaching
•    Business
•    Career
•    Job
•    Team Members
•    Relationship or Friendship
•    Exercise Routine
•    Marketing Plan
•    Work of Art
•    Community Organization
•    Etc.

And without further ado, here are 4 of my favorite Soul-Centered Secrets for Launching ANYTHING:

1) Get Excited about Your New Project: I know this might seem obvious, but think about how many times you set off to do something new, and it felt heavy, or stressful, or you just felt so-so about it. Not too much positive energy there, right?

If you aren’t excited about your new business or relationship or team member, then it will be very challenging to feel energized and spring into intentional action to move it forward. So here’s what I recommend: see if you can get excited about this new thing you’re embarking on. Make a list of all of the things about it that make your heart sing. If you come up with enough to help you shift your attitude around it, great! If not, then it’s time to reconsider if this new venture is aligned for you.

2) Institute a “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Policy Until You Feel Confident: Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE telling family and friends and colleagues and clients about all of the new juicy things I’m up to. I love getting support and bringing folks into the picture with me. However, here’s what I’ve found to be true, both for myself and for many women I’ve worked with: if you let others in on your new program or budding relationship or book idea too soon, you leave yourself vulnerable to unintentional criticism or fear or doubt before you yourself are feeling fully confident in your new thing.

Instead, what I recommend is keeping your news to yourself until you feel strong enough and excited enough about it that Aunt Sally telling you you’re crazy from moving from corporate to not-for-profit won’t feel like an earthquake hit.

3) Be Honest with Yourself about your Fears: Starting something new is scary. Plain and simple. As my clients often hear me say – Fear is PART of the process of up-leveling and moving forward. That’s just how it is. What’s important is how you handle your fear: do you ignore it? Run away from it? Let it sabotage you? Or, are you willing to acknowledge and face your fears so that you can move past them?

Being able to do this is key to soul-centered success in anything you do.

4) Skip Towards Something New Instead of Running Away from Something Old: Whether it’s a new relationship or a new job or teaching new subject matter or a new diet, you want to make sure that you’re starting it for the right reasons. The right reasons can be: because you are excited, because you feel passionate about it, because it makes your heart sing, because your intuition is telling you it’s right.

The #1 wrong reason for launching something new: because it allows you to leave or run away from your current situation.

In other words, you want to move to a new city because you LOVE this new city, not simply because you hate where you are right now. Or, you want to launch a new group program in your business because you are so psyched to do it; not because your current group program simply isn’t working.

Of course: get out of the relationship or job or situation that isn’t working for you. But don’t run onto the next thing simply because the current one is mis-aligned. If you do this, you might find yourself running away again pretty soon thereafter.

So you say you want a Re-vo-lu-tion…

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Whoever you are, if you have an idea, business, message, work of art, conference, workshop, new algorhythm – basically anything that you’re passionate about – you want it out in the world in BIG ways. You want your idea to be visible, seen, understood, talked about, purchased. You want it to serve many and help shape and heal the world.

You know in your heart you’ve got something really special and the world needs to know about it. You feel the energy and excitement rising within you when you vision your idea out in the world in big ways.

And, when your passionate project or idea DOESN’T get seen or paid attention to, it can feel incredibly frustrating, as if you threw a big party and nobody came.

Visibility, unfortunately, doesn’t happen automatically just because you have a great idea. Visibility requires Revolutionary Energy.

What is Revolutionary Energy?

Revolutionary Energy is radically new or innovative; it’s outside or beyond the established procedures; it’s bold, and it’s what allows you to think for yourself and to think in ways you haven’t yet been taught to think.

We all need it at one point or another in our lives and work. You need Revolutionary energy in order to get out of a stuck pattern, make a splash and get your supervisor’s attention, get your business seen and desired, attract visibility to your book.

Yet so many folks find Revolutionary Energy so difficult to access. Why?Because we get stuck in the “norm”, and in our “shoulds” and “have to”s.

I want to teach you how you can do it ease-fully. Here are my 3 top tools for activating Revolutionary energy in your life:

1. Create Authentic and Out-of-the-box “Marketing” Ideas

When I say “marketing” ideas, I mean anything from actually marketing your business or book, to marketing yourself to get a job in a new organization or a promotion in your current office, to drawing attention to yourself in the realm of relationships and dating. If you’ve got a great idea, it’s important that you let others know about it in fun, new, unusual or authentic ways so that you capture their focus and draw them in.

Examples of authentic or out-of-the-box marketing ideas include:

• Hand-written, heart-centered thank you notes after job interviews or follow-up notes after meeting a prospect at a networking meeting
• Giving away gift certificates every 30 minutes of a Teleclass
• Completely breaking form in a promotional email to your community and including a collage of pictures, words, and sound

2. Be Bold & Persistent When it Comes to Spreading the Word

Have you ever heard of an apologetic revolutionary? Not a chance! When you begin to really put yourself or your message out there, it is pretty likely that fear is going to come up. But fear is always part of the process of growing, stretching, and becoming more visible. Being bold involves following up or asking why you didn’t get something you wanted – like following up with a prospective client, or someone you are interested in partnering with. Being bold means asking again or attempting to understand why you didn’t get the result you wanted.

In order to activate your revolutionary boldness, it’s important that you get really clear for yourself on your fears around putting yourself “out there” and standing up strong for yourself and whatever you want to be seen. Once you identify those fears, you can begin to build confidence around them so that it becomes easy-breezy to make the requests that you want and the follow-ups that are necessary.

3. Walk Your Talk: Whatever it is that you want to bring visibility to – yourself, your business, your artwork, your conference - you need to believe in it passionately, and live the principles behind it in your own life. If you aren’t confident in your idea, and put it to use in your own life, then others won’t be confident in it either. The more walk your talk, the more your revolutionary energy will come through, and the more visibility you’ll create.
