The BIG day is almost here -  have you registered? The Gratitude Project is going to be revolutionary and I hope you’ll take part in it! Imagine how much better your life, your business, and your soul would be if you took a few minutes every day to be grateful. One of the paradoxes of transformation is that gratitude for both what you love and the presence of what you don’t love are both a way of saying, “Yes”, to Life. The paradox being that acceptance, like forgiveness, is not condoning the condition; it is a way of evolving through it.

Gratitude is like driving your stake deep in the ground and saying, “this is where I stand”. You are validating your very existence, your cosmic necessity to and with the whole, and your ability to create with it. Your gratitude says, “Yes, I’m willing to participate with Life with my unique genius from what I know and where I am right now in the giving and receiving of Life.” It becomes the attraction for all that you desire and the transformation of what you do not.

That is not where I started with gratitude. Like most, I suppose, I knew to count my blessings, which evolved into disciplined thankfulness and the power of a positive attitude. A few years later came energy, gratitude lists to build my gratitude muscles, and other tools and disciplines to keep it flowing.

But it became most fun when it penetrated the surface, went beyond what I wanted to create, beyond politeness, beyond my disciplines, beyond avoiding “negative” emotion, and became an integrated way of being—not perfection, mind you—being.

Rachel Naomi Remen said, “Those who nurture the hidden wholeness in those around them become the architects of a new world.” The integration of gratitude acknowledges that wholeness, the invisible—or not so invisible—connections between all that is. Gratitude integrated as a way of being then becomes your path of authenticity, of creative intention, and of wholeness for yourself and a new world.

Re-Write Your Money Story and Live By It

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

money-wipeMoney – we want it, we don’t want it, we have it, we need it, the other person has it, we love it, we hate it, we lost it, we made it, we deserve it, we don’t deserve it, we know how to attract it, we’re not the kind of person who attracts it. We each have a very unique and important relationship to money and beliefs around it.

Everyone has a money story, rich or poor, and it’s your money story that either allows you to attract in prosperity or completely blocks you from having what you want in your life.

If you are in a place in your life where your bank account doesn’t reflect what you want, or you have to skimp on what you buy for yourself, or you simply feel as if you’ve gotten a rotten deal and you should have more, or that everyone else around you has more than you, then you can be 100%, absolutely sure that you are operating out of a personal money story that is sabotaging you.

At its heart, your “money story” is a series of beliefs and fears that you have developed about money and your personal relationship to money. These beliefs and fears may or may not be based in fact. However, because you have thought them over and over and over again, your mind comes to believe these messages as truth.

It is absolutely vital for you to get very acquainted with – to actually “Befriend” – your fears about money. Why? Because when you avoid your fears, they take over your actions and thoughts and the result is that you sabotage yourself and your ability to create for yourself.

This happens in a variety of ways: anything from avoiding your work by spending too much time on email to telling yourself that you’re not good enough to apply for a certain grant so you wait until the last minute to do it, to telling yourself that no one will buy your services, so you undercharge yourself to telling yourself that you don’t have enough time to accomplish everything you need to and over-scheduling yourself to the point of exhaustion.

The first step to Befriending Your Fears about money is to become aware of what your fears are. Here are the top 8 fears that come up around money and abundance:

  1. Fear of not being good enough to have money & abundance – “I’m scared I’m not a good enough writer to make a living from it”
  2. Fear of not knowing how to earn money – “I’m not good with numbers” or “I don’t know how to run a business” or “I’m not the Wall Street type, therefore I’m scared I’ll never make money”
  3. Fear of the success and visibility that comes with money & abundance – “If I’m rich, then people will notice me and see I’m a fraud”
  4. Fear of not deserving money & abundance – “I’m scared I’m not the type of person, or my family isn’t the type of family, that can make money”
  5. Fear that it will take up way too much time to make good money – “If I really go after my dream and make it work, I’m scared I won’t have any time left over for anything else”
  6. Fear of losing connection with self or loved ones bc of money – “If I am rich, my sister won’t be able to relate to me anymore”
  7. Fear of surpassing loved ones because of money – “I am betraying my father by being more successful and prosperous than him; I’ll be leaving him behind”
  8. Fear of getting hurt, used or judged – “My friends will think I’m shallow if I buy a beach house in the Hamptons”

Take a moment now and get clear for yourself – what is the thing you are scared of most around money? Go with the first thing that comes to mind for you, and I want you to write that down, star it, underline it, do whatever you need to do so that you remember it.

Whatever this fear or fears are, once you are clear on them, then you can begin to really work with them and move through the process for Befriending Your Money Fears – leading you to open new doors to creating abundance for yourself on all levels!

What Do In-Authenticity, Resentment and Wishy-Washyness Have in Common? Unhealthy Boundary Setting!

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Do any of these situations sound familiar?:

Your client pays you a month late…for the third time.
You swallow your roommate’s jab at your choice of outfit, again.

Your child wakes you up for the fifth time at night.
You say “yes” with a grimace to Aunt Jane when you are asked to cook for the family get-together even though you are swamped with work.

These situations are all results of unclear, abused boundaries. Unhealthy boundaries can leave you feeling exhausted, resentful, and inauthentic in your relationships. When you allow your boundaries to be violated, you also often end up lacking in time, money and self-care.

Examples of good boundaries:

  • Having a schedule and sticking to it
  • Being clear about your rate, services, and availability
  • Agreeing on timelines
  • Knowing your “No’s” – what is it that is a deal breaker for you, is not okay – and following through on it
  • Taking care of yourself before you take care of others

What happens when you have good boundaries:

  • You feel energized
  • You feel clear
  • You find you are taking better care of yourself
  • Your relationships feel authentic
  • You have time for things
  • You feel abundant
  • You are able to serve in more ways
  • You enjoy life more

So, what do you do if you sense that you are allowing your boundaries to be crossed and violated? Here is my proven 4-part process for creating healthy and happy boundaries in your life: ...keep reading

Who’s your Mama? How to get nurtured, loved, and supported

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

I appreciate Mother’s Day in a whole new way now that I’m a Mother myself.

I realize that it’s not just about honoring my mother, but it’s really about taking a day to get the importance of being mothered - of being nurtured, loved, seen, appreciated, taken care of.

For some of us, this is exactly how our mothers mothered us. For others, not so much.

Here’s what I’ve come to learn: no matter how loving  your mother has been, no matter how nurturing your mother has been, no matter how encouraging your mother has been, there is no mother on the face of this earth who is perfect. Period. Not even me (though sometimes I tell myself I am!).

In other words, none of us have found in our mothers the opportunity to ALWAYS be seen, always be heard, always have our opinion valued, always be given the benefit of the doubt, always be respected.

And because of it, as you grow up, you might feel a little unseen in the world, undervalued, unheard. Or perhaps somehow your relationship with your mother created for you the feeling that you were always responsible for her or your family, or that it was unacceptable to break the pattern of illness or addiction or lack in your family, or that you would be unloved if you became your own, separate person. Perhaps somehow you were told that you were “too much” or “not enough”. Or maybe the message was you’ll never REALLY be successful, or that you’re not attractive enough.

Whatever the story was for you, chances are there is a story, and that story has had a profound effect on your life and your image of yourself. ...keep reading

The Three Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself When Moving Through a Transition

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Congratulations on your birthday! Does that make you 40 years-old now?

I heard about your brother’s sudden illness - is everything okay?

You landed the position, that’s amazing! How do you feel about leaving your ten year post at your old office?

What do all of these situations have in common? They each mark a major transition in a person’s life.
A transition is anything from moving to a new career to an anniversary, birthday, divorce, marriage, letting go of a loved one, or anything else that marks the passing of one phase of your life into another.

While these periods can sometimes be very joyful or beautiful like a birthday, or difficult like leaving a job or getting a divorce, transitions effect us on a deep level because they signify groundbreaking change or movement both on an inner and outer level.

In addition to all of the joys or challenges that come along with it, a time of transition is also an opportunity to create new beginnings and harness the energy of the change to really move you forward in significant ways.

Whenever I work with women going through a transition in their lives, we spend time examining its significance. One of the places I like to start, in order to help them understand and grapple with the transition as well as honor and move forward in their lives, is by having them answer the following three questions: ...keep reading

Are You Forgetting to Prioritize for Success?

Monday, July 19th, 2010

How we spend our time is essentially how we spend our lives. It’s a very big deal.

For those of us that have busy lives, time is incredibly precious. Sometimes time can feel like the biggest thing you are fighting against. It’s that feeling of rushing to get things done, or confusion and inactivity from having too many things to do and not enough time to do them, or feeling dissatisfied because your life isn’t in alignment with your heart.

Know what I mean?

One of the most common mistakes that I see people make when trying to create balance, time, and energy in their life stems from not being clear on their priorities.

Each and every day, we are presented with endless possibilities of things to do, see, and hear. Often, we aren’t clear on what is more important to do and what is less important to do - both in terms of our Overarching Priorities and Day-to-Day Priorities. This lack of clarity leads to ...keep reading

Are You Making this Common Time and Energy Wasting Mistake?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

By now, you probably know that creating a solid Action Plan and Blueprint are key to envisioning and following through on any BIG project, from building your business to publishing your book to reaching your health or fitness goals.

If you plan correctly, you will have not only a juicy vision of your BIG project; you will also end up with a thorough and easy to execute day-by-day and week-by-week plan of how you will get from point A to point B, while still having plenty of time left over to enjoy your life.

But did you know that if you create the details of your plan before being clear on your bigger vision, you usually end up wasting a ton of time and energy?

While you don’t need your 100% completed idea in place in order to plan and move forward, you do need to have a pretty good idea of what you want your vision to look like.

Think of it this way: imagine you live on the East Coast and want to take a road trip to the West Coast. You pack your bags, buy your road map, buy your local attraction guide, get in touch with your friends on the West Coast to let them know you’re coming, and then get in your car to go.

Where are you going? To Los Angeles? To Seattle? To Portland?

If you were driving from NYC to Los Angeles, you would pack a different set of clothing and take a very different driving route with particular rest stops than if you were driving to Seattle. Your plan would be completely different. ...keep reading

What My 11-Month Old Can Teach You About Achieving Success

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

How many times have you set out to do something, and when it doesn’t work out after the 1st or 2nd attempt, you decide that you’re not good at it, you’ll never learn how to do it, or it’s not for you?

I often hear a story similar to this from women just before I start coaching with them. Some examples include:

  • “I posted my online dating profile 2 weeks ago, and while I’ve emailed with a couple of guys, I still haven’t met someone I’d like to go on a date with. The online dating thing will never work for me!”
  • “I followed up with this prospect client, but they never responded to me. I guess they aren’t interested in my service or product.”
  • “I want to write a memoir, but have spent a month and can’t get through the draft of the first chapter. Maybe I’m not meant to write about my adventures!”

In each of these instances, the individual has given up hope or enthusiasm for something they really, REALLY want, just because they didn’t achieve it in full right away. Instead of viewing their attempt exactly as it is: simply, one attempt that did not work out, they create a story about themselves: I will never meet someone to date; This client will never be interested in my services; I’ll never be able to write this book. ...keep reading
